Bar Mitzvah Brunch Ideas

Fancy Vegetable Platter
Reader Terry is making a Friday dairy buffet brunch for about 25 people in her friend’s home, for bar mitzvah guests coming in from out of town. She doesn’t want to duplicate the bagel and lox brunch planned for Sunday, and asked for ideas for items that can be cooked ahead of time.

Here is my suggested menu plan. It involves a limited amount of items that Terry will have to prepare herself.

Friday Roundup #6, Plus an Announcement

I changed my posting schedule this week so that I could write about my son’s Bar Mitzvah. On Tuesday, I made the challah using six kilograms of flour. My daughter mixed the ingredients, I kneaded by hand for 45 minutes (!), and my son shaped all of the braids and rolls. I took pictures. We ended up with two extra large challah, 4 medium, and about 30 large rolls. It all went into the freezer.

On Sunday, I shared my thoughts on Bar Mitzvah Menu Planning.

Bar Mitzvah Menu for 35

I’ve more or less finalized the menu. While I would like to follow a commenter’s suggestion and keep it light, the number of teenage boys and the necessity to prepare in advance, along with tradition, means that it probably won’t be. I’ll have fresh salads and vegetables at every meal and leave it to people to make their own choices.
