Video: Braid a Challah Using Two Strands
In this short video, I share how to braid a challah using two strands. I got the idea from Ted at “There’s a Fire in My Kitchen,” a blog that is now inactive. Unfortunately he didn’t show exactly how to do the braiding, so I improvised a little.
You can find the recipe for the dough here: Challah Bread Using Sponge Method. Yosefa, of Cooking Outside the Box, who also videotaped this clip, wrote:
I made this Challah a couple months ago with mostly whole wheat. It tasted pretty yeasty to me, maybe because I left the dough in the fridge overnight. It was still the best Challah I’ve ever made. I froze a loaf and some rolls and warmed them in the oven a couple months later. Amazing! My dad also used this recipe and he and my mom said it was the best Challah any of us has ever made.

Using the video is a great idea for explaining things like how to braid a challa.
Just a word about this video. I watched it twice and the second time around I got the idea. It would have been better if you either did it more slowly or used more words to explain what you were doing.

Risa, I’m new at this and I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
It was meant to be constructive, I know you can take it

Nicely done, although there’s an easier way to braid with two strands: You put them into the shape of an X (very similar to what you do in the beginning, but more open). Then you take both ends of the “lower” strand and cross them over the “upper” strand. Repeat with the second strand and keep giong until the end. Here’s avideo to illustrate what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPveL-9eHxs&feature=related
